Exploring the Three Main Seychelles Islands

Mahé

We spent on Mahé only two days due to the airport location. Based on our knowledge, the island seemed to be not as interesting as Praslin and La Digue. But we had to change our mind! There are also beautiful beaches on the island, and there are a lot of places to see.

We rented a car to do a round trip around the island and we visited, for example, Creole institute in Turtle Bay and Craft village nearby. Also in this area is Takamaka rum production where we have bought some bottles which made our days on the island happier.

If you want to export the rum from the island, surprisingly at the airport you can get the best price! We visited as well the tea factory, where it is possible to see the production of and buy some tea – they have the best prices on the island..

Regarding the beaches we can recommend Anse Royale – really beautiful scenery, on the market you can buy fresh fishes and fruits, than Grand Anse, or Beau Vallon. It is a little bit more frequented part of island, but here you can feel the local atmosphere – each evening in the pedestrian zone it is possible to buy excellent and cheap local food and souvenirs from the small local sellers.

Praslin

On Praslin, we stayed at the Berjaja Praslin Resort near Anse Volbert. We can recommend it.

Comfortable rooms, quietly good breakfast, on the beach they also have a restaurant for dinner purposes. The beach close to hotel is nice, but not the best. Very beautiful beach is Anse Lazio – in the north..

Unfortunately we visit while it was raining, but despite this we swam in the sea, as the water is really warm and the temperature is around 30 degrees. The other nice beach is Anse Georgette, which is part of the La Lemuria resort, and you need the permit to go there. You can get the permit in advance by e-mail. On Praslin it is very comfortable to use the bus connection for transport – the ticket is 5 rupees only, no matter how many stops you go. On the island you can visit as well a national park..

La Digue

Very nice small island whose centre is called La Passe. The typical transport here is the bicycle. It is really fun. If you have enough power, you can climb the Belle view – a 335m-high hill with a view of surrounding islands. In the local weather – warm and humidity- it is quite difficult, but nice. Some restaurants offer a lunch menu so you can stop and spend some very nice time close to the sea with tasty food..

Based on our opinion the most beautiful beaches are Grand Anse, Anse Cocos and Petite Anse – the last two are only reachable by crossing the forest and rocks. During the trip there you can relax in some private fruit and juice shops close the road..

The Union Estate with its vanilla plantation and a beautiful beach, Anse Source d'Argent has an entrance fee of 100 rupees per person per day.

It is an interesting place, but, based on our opinion, this beach is really more beautiful in the pictures, or for swimming in low water...
