Anse Bougainville

Description

The secluded, tranquil atmosphere is a real highlight. Anse Bougainville can be difficult to spot from the main road, so visitors will often find themselves the only people on the beach. Anse Bougainville is a small, secluded bay in the south-east of the main Seychelles island, Mahé. Located in the larger bay of Anse Baleine and Anse Royale, this beach benefits from close proximity to a number of facilities and accommodations, as well as a whole host of other beaches. This makes it a great addition to a day trip to the south-east of the island thanks to its shallow, calm water, and general emptiness. Getting to the beach is easiest by bus, as the bus stops near to the beach itself. Getting here by car is slightly more difficult, as there is only limited parking near the beach, but it is possible. There are also various accommodations nearby, so guests of these establishments can simply walk to Anse Bougainville if they so wish. The water here is shallow, and protected from the open ocean thanks to the offshore coral reef. That said, the water can be a little murky here, especially compared to some of the Seychelles’ other beaches. In addition, the sand isn’t the whitest here, so in terms of looks there are better options elsewhere on the island. That said, the water is nice and shallow here, making it ideal for swimming or snorkelling, even for unconfident swimmers and children. The strength of Anse Bougainville is also its ultimate weakness. Thanks to its close proximity to the more popular Anse Royale, visitors can enjoy a number of different facilities just a short distance away, including shops and restaurants. However, Anse Bougainville’s proximity to Anse Royale also means that many tourists choose the more famous beach up the coast, leaving Anse Bougainville a little neglected. However, for those looking for a more quiet, secluded option, this could be the beach for you.
