LGBTQ+ in the Seychelles
The Seychelles are considered a safe destination for travellers from the LGBTQ+ community. This means that as an LGBTQ+ couple, you can move around the Seychelles freely and without worry. In comparison to other destinations such as Gran Canaria or Thailand, the Seychelles are less focused on LGBTQ+ tourism, but a trip is definitely worthwhile.
What is the current law?
The Seychelles has made impressive progress in terms of LGBTQ+ rights since 2016, when same-sex relationships were legalised. Although the country has not yet legalised same-sex marriage, the changes to the legal code have laid the foundation for further discussions and slowly but surely greater acceptance in society.
Local nonprofits and global advocates for equality have become increasingly active in recent years. They organise colourful Pride events and educational workshops, strengthen cohesion and send a clear message of inclusion and acceptance. Social Media is also doing its part by strengthening the voices of the LGBTQ+ community in the Seychelles and thus connecting with global movements.
There is still some way to go in terms of full equality, but the Seychelles are on a promising path. Continued support and commitment remain crucial.
Are there specially designed holidays for LGBTQ+ couples?
From time to time there are special trips for LGBTQ+ couples, such as cruises around the main islands of the Seychelles. Please contact us for more information.
Can we get married as an LGBTQ+ couple in the Seychelles?
Unfortunately, an official, civil wedding for same-sex couples is currently not possible. However, if you would like to say ‘I do’ on the islands, you can in a symbolic ceremony. We will be happy to help you organise an unforgettable ceremony on one of the dreamy white beaches of the Seychelles.
