The unique snorkelling trail, which guides you to some of the island’s best underwater spots, as well as the night-time aquarium, are two of the Seychelles’ most unique features, and can both be found here. Takamaka Beach on Cerf Island is the longest stretch of sand on this tiny island, which is located in the Sainte Anne Marine Park near to the Seychelles’ largest island, Mahé. The water here is extremely shallow, and protected from the open ocean by a coral reef that can be seen about 25 metres offshore from the beach. The complete lack of sharp drop-off makes it an ideal beach for families, couples, and solo travellers alike. Getting to the beach is simple thanks to the size of Cerf Island. Guests of one of the island’s hotels and guesthouses can simply walk to anywhere else on the island in minutes. In fact, Takamaka Beach is home to a few of these accommodations, so guests of these establishments can simply leave their rooms and find themselves right on the beach immediately. The beach is great for numerous activities, including swimming, snorkelling, scuba diving, fishing, and canoeing. This is largely thanks to the shallow water and exciting underwater scenery that can be seen from the beach. In fact, the underwater world is so vibrant here that a guided snorkelling trail was constructed offshore from the beach. Here, signposts guide you to some of the area’s best underwater sights, a unique feature that makes Takamaka Beach stand out. Meanwhile, at night, the jetty here is lit up from the bottom, illuminating the water, enabling you to see the incredible underwater nature of the Seychelles up-close! All in all, Takamaka Beach is probably the best all-rounded on Cerf Island thanks to its activities and unique features. Equally good for couples, families, and solo explorers, if you are staying on Cerf Island, it is almost inconceivable that you won’t come here at least once during your stay, such is the small stature of the island.
