Yes, marriages in the Seychelles are also legally valid in your home country. All you need to do is apply to your local registry office for a marriage certificate and, if you wish, a change of name.
To get married in the Seychelles, you’ll need the following documents:
- A copy of both spouse’s birth certificates (in English)

certified translation of the divorce or death certificate of the former partner - Copy of passports of both spouses
- A copy of the name change certificate if one or both partners have legally changed their name
- Certificate of no impediment
All documents must be in English or French, otherwise a certified translation is required.
In addition, all documents must be received in the Seychelles at least 6 weeks before the wedding ceremony.
After the marriage ceremony, you will receive a marriage certificate, apostille (the authentication of your Seychelles marriage certificate by the local judicial authorities to complement the marriage certificate) and a certificate of authenticity (if needed).
Yes, you can also opt for a symbolic ceremony or commitment ceremony. This is unofficial, focusing on the symbolic act (for example, renewing your vows).
Yes, two witnesses must be present at a civil wedding. If you are celebrating your wedding without guests, these can also be provided by the hotel.
