Beach - La Digue

Anse aux Cèdres

Description

The unique mixture of different natural materials, including sand, rocks, water, coral, sea-shells, and cedar trees. This combination makes Anse aux Cèdres an excellent location for photographs, and provides a contrast to many of La Digue’s other beaches, which can look similar to each other. Anse aux Cèdres is located in the south of La Digue, about 30 minutes on-foot from Anse Union. The mixture of tall waves, granite boulders, coral reef, and sea-shells dotting the sand make this beach a unique natural prospect, with some great opportunities for photographers thanks to the interplay between the sand, the ocean, and the rocks. Along with a number of other beaches on La Digue, Anse aux Cèdres is located within the Union Estate. Anyone wishing to enter the estate on-foot must pay the entrance fee, which is currently 100 Seychelles Rupees per person each day. Once in the estate, Anse aux Cèdres is located about 30 minutes’ walk from Anse Union. Most visitors to Anse aux Cèdres, however, only discover this beach as part of a tour, which many of the local tour guides offer. While not a beach for swimming or snorkelling due to the deep water and choppy waves, Anse aux Cèdres offers a unique combination of natural features, including rocks, coral reef, sand, and the cedar trees that give the beach its name. These small trees separate the two sections of Anse aux Cèdres, and bend and sway with the coastal breeze. Early in the morning, it’s possible to see droplets of water on the pines of the cedars, which can be particularly beautiful. In fact, it’s the uniquely natural atmosphere of Anse aux Cèdres which is its biggest draw, and will give you plenty to look at during your (likely) short stay on this beach.
