The picturesque scenery and the stunning takamaka trees that give the beach its name create an unforgettable image that you’ll remember long after you leave the Seychelles. Anse Takamaka is often described using words such as ‘picturesque’, ‘stunning’, and ‘breathtaking’. Once you arrive here, it’s very easy to see why. The beautiful scenery, crystal-clear water, and gorgeous sandy surface combine to create an incredible beach location in the south-west of Mahé, the largest of the Seychelles islands. Getting to the beach is simple thanks to the nearby bus stop (just 20 metres from the beach), and the presence of parking, ensuring that anyone staying on Mahé can reach Anse Takamaka with ease. There are also a few different accommodations near the beach, so guests of these establishments can enjoy the short walk to this gorgeous little bay. In terms of activities, Anse Takamaka is best-suited to snorkelling thanks to its crystal-clear water and abundance of marine life. Visitors should be sure to bring along their own flippers and mask, however, as there is no equipment rental on-site. The beach is also ideal for swimming, and the water is shallow enough that children and unconfident swimmers can still bathe in the ocean without fear. Away from the sand, there is a popular Creole restaurant, Chez Batista, right next to the beach, as well as a giant tortoise pen nearby. Please note, however, that you should not disturb the tortoises, so please avoid flash photography when admiring them. Anse Takamaka is one of Mahé’s most beautiful beaches, and is well worth a visit for anyone looking for the picturesque beaches they see on postcards, as well as try out a bit of snorkelling in the beautiful waters of the Indian Ocean.
