Crystal-clear water, sand banks at low tide, and beautiful scenery. This beach shares much in common with Grand Anse, and its beautiful, calm atmosphere is it’s real highlight, along with the wild nature of the waves and the plants. Petite Anse, as you may expect, lies next to Grand Anse in the south-east of La Digue. In fact, these two beaches share much in common, including their deep water and lack of coral reef, but also their beauty and relative anonymity. In fact, Petite Anse is arguably even less busy than Grand Anse, with very few visitors on most days, making it great for a secluded, peaceful picnic or for sunbathing. The easiest way to access Petite Anse is via Grand Anse, and the short trek over a small hill takes just 15 minutes or so. The nearest parking is also at Grand Anse, and this is the best place to leave bicycles if visitors decide to bike here. Beware that the trek between the beaches can be difficult for people with limited mobility, but most visitors should have no problems. Just like at Grand Anse, it is not safe to swim at Petite Anse, and signposts will remind you of this fact. If you do decide to venture into the water, do not go too far out, and always have someone watching you. The beach is much better suited to beach games, sunbathing, and picnicking. In fact, thanks to its beautiful surface, as well as plentiful shade, it’s a great beach for families to play on, away from the water. The driftwood shelters and trees ensure that children won’t have to stay in the sun for too long, and the short walk back to Grand Anse means that there are toilets and a restaurant nearby as well. While (only slightly!) smaller than Grand Anse, Petite Anse is no less beautiful, and well-worth a visit thanks to its stunning scenery and lack of visitors. Anyone looking for a peaceful location to sunbathe, play beach games, or enjoy a picnic will find Petite Anse to be the perfect beach for them.
