Beach - La Digue

Anse Patates

Description

The rock formations and the dolphins that sometimes swim past the beach make this beach one of the most picturesque on La Digue. Anse Patates is a small beach, located in the north of La Digue, right next to the Patatran hotel. Besides guests from this hotel, the beach itself is rarely visited, making it a peaceful, relaxing option in the north of the island. The water here deepens rather quickly due to the lack of coral reef protection, however it is safe for swimming and snorkelling closer to shore. Access to the beach is via walking, by car, or by bike. The road runs adjacent to the beach, so there are plenty of places to leave your bicycle. In addition, the proximity to certain accommodations means that Anse Patates can be reached extremely quickly and easily by certain guests, and the majority of visitors will probably be guests of these hotels. Anse Patates offers a few activities, including swimming and snorkelling. As there is no coral reef protecting the bay, anyone swimming should be careful to remain close to the shore, as currents get stronger in deeper water. This is especially true of children, who should not swim unsupervised in the water. The rock formations also make for some interesting photos, as do the dolphins that occasionally swim by the beach. The nearby hotels also ensure that the Anse Patates has good access to facilities such as restaurants and toilets. All in all, Anse Patates is an beautiful, safe beach, with something to offer everyone. Visitors should be careful of straying too far into the ocean, as the currents get stronger the deeper you go, but generally, there’s nothing to fear here, and there’s plenty to see.
